The Tim Boniface Quartet (24 March 2024)

THE TIM BONIFACE QUARTET

Sunday 24 March 2024 at 6:00 pm

The Eight Words: A jazz suite based on the eight sayings of Jesus in the Passion according to St John.

The Tim Boniface Quartet play their acclaimed 2016 release The Eight Words - an original jazz suite by Tim Boniface that explores the eight sayings of Jesus in St John’s Passion. Journeying through the dramatic contours of the passion story, the work offers a fresh take on familiar stories and sayings through the soundscape of mainstream jazz. Moving through movements that explore protest, joyful resistance, fear, violence, hope and gift, The Eight Words is a powerful addition to the longstanding tradition of music based on the Passion story. Alongside Tim, the performance features a remarkable rhythm section of established players on the UK jazz circuit - Phil Merriman (piano), Ed Babar (bass) and Jon Ormston (drums).

”A quartet who play throughout with invention and commitment” (The Jazz Journal)

“Inspired and reassuring” (The Church Times)

“Beautifully played and conceived… ambitious, thoughtful and accessible” (Paul Northup, Greenbelt)
