Phil Goes To Town (10-11 April 2026)

PHIL GOES TO TOWN

Friday 10 April 2026 at 8:00pm and Saturday 11 April 2026 at 7:30pm

Phil Beer is the multi-instrumental half of the West Country’s award-winning acoustic duo Show of Hands. With a professional career of over 36 years, Phil has a great deal of material to draw on for his solo appearances, which are an eclectic mix of traditional tunes, covers of Springsteen or The Hollies, together with his own compositions and songs from his contemporaries. All are songs and music of memory and significance sung in the subtle and melodic Phil Beer style and interjected with musings and amusings to an almost personal audience. It is a treat of past and current favourites from one of the most popular musicians on the acoustic circuit.

Each night will be a different show - there will be no repeat songs!

Special guest award-winning folk singer/songwriter Odette Michell will join Phil on Friday 10 April. Odette is an award-winning British singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with a rich foothold in the folk tradition. Based between Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire, Odette was born in Yorkshire with an Irish heritage, and first picked up the guitar aged 15 years old. Inspired by the resurgence of folk and acoustic songwriters at the time, she began writing her own songs when she was just 16 years old. Growing up in the vibrant city of Cambridge allowed Odette to take advantage of the many stages and performance venues there, including two early club stage appearances at the Cambridge Folk Festival - her first appearance there being when she was just 22 years old.

Special guest Linda Moylan will join Phil on Saturday 11 April. Following on from 2021’s acclaimed The Merchant, Linda releases her third full album ‘The Fool’ on Talking Elephant Records. The ten self and co-written songs all draw on Linda’s London-Irish heritage and her life and experiences growing up in and around pre-gentrified East London. From the end-of-the-week devil-may-care of the single Irish Love Song, through the moon-in-the-gutter, kitchen sink realism of Venus In The Dirt, to the shabby lodgings of the homesick itinerant worker in Ancient Truth, Linda captures the resilience of the working class, immigrant experience with the rare authenticity of someone who has lived and ultimately embraced it. The Fool sees Linda stepping up to the co-producer’s role, making certain that her vision for the songs is the one that she presents to the listener. Her hand-picked cast of co-producers, co-writers and musicians – both old faithfuls and new collaborators – always support but never overshadow the essence of the songs and Linda’s room-silencing voice. The Fool is a definitive, mature and self-assured piece of work that completes Linda's transition from gifted singer to fully-fledged and unique musical artist.
