Wednesday 13th July 7.30pm
La Vaghezza
'Sculpting the Fabric'

The music in this programme shapes a portrait of colours and atmospheres found in the early 1600s in Italy. It is a music of originality, unpredictability, extravagance, experimentation, and great freedom - qualities held dear by La Vaghezza. They have included several of the most influential composers of the period, while also seeking to highlight repertoire that has not been widely played. The musical forms chosen (sonate, balli, etc) aim to provide an overview of the musical landscape of the time.

Music by Merula,Cavalli, Monteverdi, Fontana, Marini, Vitali, Gabrieli, Rossi & Falconieri.

Tickets available here.

Sunday 17th July 6pm

Ceruleo present a performance of passionate music from 17th Century Italy, featuring works by Claudio Monteverdi, Giulio Caccini and Luigi Rossi.  These composers were at the vanguard of a musical revolution, breaking rules and conventions in search of the most dramatic ways of setting text to music.  This ‘second practice’ led to the creation of opera, and spread all across Europe to influence composers like Henry Purcell and Antonio Vivaldi.

Comprising two sopranos, harpsichord, lute and viola da gamba, Ceruleo are known for dramatic and engaging performances of baroque music, bringing old music to new audiences in exciting and innovative ways.  Every member of the group performs as a soloist, and Ceruleo use all available combinations of instruments and voices to create captivating performances.

Free entry with retiring collection for musicians.
